On Behalf of UN Resident Coordinator
Before I begin, I stand here today representing our UN Resident Coordinator, Mr. Didier Trebucq. He truly wishes he could be here to address you personally. He nonetheless sends his sincerest congratulations to all the participants and organizers for a successful Model UN event.
Now, to the future leaders in this room – you, the distinguished Model Delegates!
Over the past few weeks, you have stepped into the shoes of diplomats, navigating complex issues and honing valuable skills such as persuasive communication, effective negotiation, and collaborative problem-solving.
You've transitioned into seasoned representatives, navigating the world of international relations through committee sessions, crafting compelling arguments, and forming crucial resolutions. You’ve tackled one of the most pressing global concerns - the critical issue of Child Protection.
Children, the very foundation of our collective future, deserve a world free from exploitation, abuse, and the denial of their fundamental rights.

Celebrating a Decade of Progress
Today, we celebrate not only the successful Model UN event but also a decade of this remarkable initiative by Rotary Barbados. For ten years, this program has fostered global awareness and empowered young minds to tackle critical issues.
Child Rights - A Cornerstone of the SDGs
But Child Protection is not merely a theme for debate; it serves as a cornerstone of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. These interconnected goals represent a global blueprint to address humanity's greatest challenges, ensuring a world where every child can thrive.
But sadly, children face a range of threats, including abuse, neglect, exploitation, limited access to education, and even emerging risks posed by advancements in technology.
The UN as a Steadfast Ally
The United Nations stands firmly behind the principles enshrined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child. We remain unwavering in our advocacy for their access to quality education (SDG 4), essential healthcare (SDG 3), and a safe and secure environment where their voices are heard, and their needs are addressed (SDG 16).
Here in Barbados, we witness a nation committed to child well-being. Robust education systems and strong social safety nets exemplify their investment in young people, recognizing their potential to drive positive change.
Beyond the Gavel: Guardians of Child Rights
Today, the RC would have urged each of you delegates to become a relentless advocate for Child Protection in every room you enter. Be their unwavering voice in your schools, a champion for their well-being in your communities, and a dedicated agent of positive change in your future endeavours. Let the fight for their fundamental rights be your unwavering commitment.
Delegates, today the UN extends its heartfelt congratulations to all of you who have completed this enriching program. You’ve got this! This is only the beginning of your journey as advocates for positive change.

In closing, today I would ask for you to carry the spirit of Model UN forward. Continue to challenge the status quo, leverage the knowledge and skills you've acquired, and translate your passion for Child Protection into tangible action.
Together, let's strive to build a world where every child's rights are not just protected but championed. And remember, the fight for a brighter future for all children begins with each of you.
Thank you.
