Our Work on the Sustainable Development Goals in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean

How the UN is supporting The Sustainable Development Goals in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean

To provide more tailored approach to meet the ambitions of the 2030 Agenda, the UN development system, under the leadership of the Resident Coordinator, provides joint policy support to countries through a MAPS approach to develop a National SDG Implementation Roadmap for governments. The UN has also embarked on an MCO Review Process to strengthen country cooperation, including the roll-out of Country Implementation Plans (CIPs) that are aligned to national priorities, each tied to individual SDGs. Central to this strategic approach is addressing gaps and identifying opportunities for individual countries within the context of regional cooperation frameworks, with UN agencies leveraging their technical expertise to zero in on issues such as Economic Diversification, Resilience Building (infrastructure, economic etc.), Youth Engagement and Employment, Blue Economy, Health and Access to Development Financing. To pave the way forward and “leave no one behind”, the UN MCO is also increasing coordination capacities on the ground across the region and defining opportunities for SDG financing and resource mobilization for SIDS through the UN Joint SDG Fund window, the India-UN Partnership Fund and other mechanisms. Coordination support to SDG implementation is guided by a framework of “delivering as one”, continuous dialogue, bi-lateral and regional engagement and ongoing partnership with governments, regional organisations, the private sector, civil society organisations, marginalized and vulnerable groups and development partners.
