PAHO Donates Communication Equipment to Strengthen Health Information Dissemination in Saint Lucia
The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has provided communication equipment worth over Twenty Thousand United States Dollars (USD$20,000.00) to the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs in Saint Lucia. This valuable donation aims to enhance the dissemination of vital health information to the population.
In a brief ceremony held on Thursday, April 20, 2023, Ms. Jenny Daniel, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs, expressed heartfelt appreciation to PAHO for their contribution. She assured that the equipment would be utilized to its fullest potential.
Reynold Hewitt, the Country Programme Specialist for PAHO, expressed PAHO's delight in making this donation. He emphasized that the communication equipment would significantly bolster the capacity of the Communication Unit to deliver health messages to vulnerable populations. Additionally, it would enable the creation of messages in formats that are easily comprehensible to all. On behalf of Dr. Amalia Del Riego, PAHO/WHO Representative for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Countries, Mr. Hewitt officially handed over the equipment to the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs.
This recent donation by PAHO adds to a series of previous contributions made by the organization. Throughout the pandemic, PAHO has facilitated human resource training, donated personal protective equipment, oxygen concentrators, laboratory supplies, and various other hospital accessories to support the government's response efforts. Mr. Hewitt acknowledged these valuable contributions made by PAHO in their commitment to combatting the pandemic.
