Friends, partners and colleagues - good evening!
This is from Antigua and Barbuda that I wanted to extend to all of you a warm welcome to this special event observing the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia. Today, we’re gathered to celebrate diversity, promote equality, and reaffirm our commitment to the fundamental rights of the LGBTI+ community.
A special welcome to the committed LGBTI+ community, and to our partners the Canadian High Commission and Equals Barbados who have made this event possible – Alongside the UN, and particularly UNDP.
This 17th May marks a global moment where we come together to raise awareness and stand against homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia. It's a day to reflect on the challenges faced by the LGBTI+ community and to celebrate the progress we've made so far. But it's also a call to action—a reminder that there is still work to be done.
Each and every one of us has a role to play in creating a world where all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, can live free from discrimination and violence. For example, by raising awareness, to break stereotypes and build bridges. By standing up for human right. And finally, by promoting inclusivity and diversity.
So, my friends, thank you for being a part of this discussion. Let's stand together as allies and advocates. To promote the values of acceptance, love and equality.
