As we observe Human Rights Day this year, we do so in a world filled with significant challenges.
From the COVID-19 pandemic to a climate crisis of growing proportions, inequalities are deepening, poverty is rising and millions of children in the world are missing out on their right to education.
Human Rights are everyone’s rights and the failure to frontally address the issues that jeopardize them will derail achievement of the SDGs.
So to protect people and planet,
To create space for inclusion,
To ensure equal access for all – whether to education or COVID-19 vaccines,
To eliminate poverty and discrimination in all forms
Let us stand up for human rights.
And on this day, there is hope.
As we strive to overcome these challenges and to recover better and greener,
Let us be encouraged that there is strength in unity and global solidarity
That youth are adding their voices and ideas to promote change
That policies, laws and institutions are being supported to promote equity and fairness
Human Rights remains a bedrock of the United Nation’s Cooperation Agenda in the Caribbean
This is our commitment.
Happy Human Rights Day!
