The Impacts of the La Soufrière Eruption on the people of Saint Vincent
The eruption of the La Soufrière volcano has caused much devastation to the people of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Entire villages are covered in ash, schools and businesses have been closed, and residents are coping with limited access to clean drinking water. Today, April 20, 2021 the UN launched a $29.2 million Global funding appeal to provide humanitarian aid and support a sustainable recovery for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and other impacted countries.
Our Resident Coordinator UN Sub-Regional Team ventured into the red zone with Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves to get a firsthand encounter on the impact of the eruption.
