Montserrat

With a population of around 5,000 people on a land area of just 39 square miles, Montserrat is the smallest state in the OECS, and one of three British Overseas Territories covered by the United Nations Multi-Country Office for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean. As a small island developing state, Montserrat is vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and vulnerabilities which are exacerbated by the social and economic legacy of the eruptions of the Soufriere Hills volcano in the late 1990s. With the support of agencies like UNDP, a sustainable framework has been developed to assess the needs in a post disaster context while building a more resilient society.
