Two students recognized through the Spirit of the UN Award

Since 2002, UN Barbados and the OECS has partnered with the Arthur Smith Primary School located adjacent to UN House in Barbados, to recognize two of its Class Four students whose work is an expression of the core principles, spirit and vision on which the United Nations was founded. This year’s awardees Diamond and Kamar not only performed extremely well in their academics and extra curricular activities but have also proven to have characteristics that embody the mission of the United Nations. 



The award was presented during the school’s graduation ceremony on Thursday, 27th June 2019 at the Graydan Sealy Secondary School. Lisa McClean-Trotman, UNICEF Programme Communication Specialist made the presentation on behalf of the UN System:

“In many ways, this year’s recipients—Diamond Anthony and Kamar Scott—are students who have shown that they are deserving of such a prestigious award. Diamond, through her diligence in both academics and other areas, kindness and creativity and Kamar, through this dedication to his studies, concern for others and endless talents. Both students have shown qualities that lie at the heart of the United Nation’s mission.”

The prizes included trophies and secondary school supplies.
