UN-USAID Partnership to accelerate Progress on the SDGs
06 June 2022
The United Nations Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean and USAID Eastern and Southern Caribbean missions have been partnering to support Caribbean Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to recover and rebuild from COVID-19 and other shocks.
On the margins of the UN Social and Economic Council (ECOSOC) Operational Activities for Development Segment (OAS) which took at UNHQ in New York, 16-19 May, the UN Sub-regional Team (UNST) in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean and USAID discussed best practices to boost resilience for vulnerable Caribbean Small Island Developing States (SIDS), which bear the brunt of the impacts of climate change, while not historically contributing to the problem. They also outlined some of the ongoing initiatives in place to support the region in areas including youth development, education, citizen security, disaster risk reduction and food security.
A highlight of the session was the showcasing of a short video that highlighted some of the results of this ongoing partnership that focused on beneficiaries and impact.
